Yeah, this.

I did enough dumbass relationship stuff in my youth that I distinguish between actually loving someone and the sort of thing you mention: infatuation, being in love with love, being fourteen, and so forth. But I'm hesitant to use the phrase "true love" for that, because it implies some sort of Vast Mystickal Connection, which just seems dumb. I tend to distinguish on the negative: "love" is the real thing, as opposed to puppy love or whatnot.

So with you on "love at first sight", because seriously? No. "Hey, he's hot" is not the basis for a lasting relationship, nor even "Hey, he's hot and reading my favorite book." I mean, maybe if you're a telepath, you can figure things out from looking at someone, but...then we're in some sort of freaky fantasy universe and I should worry more about agents of the Crimson King than romance plot, really.
