I'm pretty sure nobody gets this one, because I don't get it. But while 589 is the fandom's darling, my absolute favorite character interaction in all of Dissidia is between Squall and the Warrior of Light, even though it mostly amounts to just the scene above.
It probably has to do primarily with the parallels it's possible to draw between the characters. They're both self-identified as knights in some fashion or other, although the Warrior is a full-metal shining idealist while Squall is, as always, pragmatic and mercenary. They are the only warriors of Cosmos who choose to travel alone. And although the game doesn't directly address it, there's also the element of memory - Squall's memories have been eroded by junctioning Guardian Forces; the Warrior of Light has forgotten his past so completely he doesn't know his own name - and also the comparisons that can be drawn if (as some of the fandom does) you subscribe to the theory that the Warrior of Light is in some way linked to the time loop that leads to Garland becoming Chaos.
And of course there's the fact that the Warrior of Light gets the best speech I've heard out of Squall since his uncharacteristic Rousing Speech in disc 2 of FFVIII.
Now, why any of this can or should be read as at all shippy is a question for the less rational parts of my fan-brain. It can just as easily read as a mentorship/partnership, especially considering Rinoa, and also Squall's interpersonal issues and the fact that the Warrior mostly seems to lend himself more to the kind of nonsexual chivalric romance in which a knight pledges himself to a lady and goes out and fights in her honor and would never dream of actually touching her (which is pretty much exactly how I read his interactions with Cosmos). But Squall is one of the few characters I crackship around pretty freely thanks to his tendency to go from zero to obsessive once he starts caring about someone, so... yeah, I kind of ship it. A little. For some strange reason. Don't look at me like that.
