As an addendum to my last post, I've now finished my new game plus replay of P3P. I like how it provides the opportunity to make the ending even more of a tearjerker, like it wasn't enough of one on its own or something. Shinjiro's isn't so bad, but Akihiko's... damn, Atlus.

I am vaguely contemplating fanfic, though it seems a bit superfluous.

In completely unrelated news: Claire Stanfield vs. Heiwajima Shizuo FAITO. Discuss.

For the first time ever that I can remember, I was not able to go home for Christmas.

This is due mostly to my car once again refusing to start, this time on Christmas Eve, in a miracle of crappy timing. Ordinarily, even though I don't get much time off for Christmas, I'm able to drive down the night before, spend the night at Mom's, do Christmas Day with the family and drive back in the evening for work on the 26th.

Not this year.

But thanks to generous friends, I didn't spend the holiday alone, so I'm grateful for that. Mom will be coming up on Sunday, too. So it's all right.

Tomorrow I have to work, but after that, we're going to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Hot young Watson = yes please.

Also, whoever filled my Yuletide request is MADE OF WIN and wrote me a novelette all about Eve Genoard and the Gandor Family and unlikely partnership and Luck/Eve UST, and I love it so much I want to hug it: "While Recognizing the Importance of Luck in Certain Situations, Eve Genoard Continues to Disapprove of Gambling". (With suitably Baccano!-style subtitles for each scene, including "Inconveniently, Claire Stanfield Does Not Appear In This Story". Seriously, made of win and awesome.)

More Luck/Eve while I am on a roll. No sex this time.

This will possibly end up as part of Fortune Favors the Brave, because, well.

omg I love them so much

In which Eve comes unexpectedly to the rescue. )

This flurry of fic inspiration is brought to you mostly courtesy of my finally finding an online translation of the epilogue of Drugs & Dominoes, which has further cemented my love for this pairing forever.

Summed up: after regaining consciousness from his bout of Post Dramatic Stress Disorder, Luck gives Eve the location where they dumped Dallas. But does not actually tell her 'fine go get him,' because that would be too easy. Instead he says 'if you ever feel like his suffering has been enough to make up for my anger, then do what you want, and don't say anything else because whether you thank me or curse me it's just going to make me mad,' and then he goes home and broods about it a lot.

And Eve goes home and frets about how if she rescues Dallas it might hurt Luck.

o-otpppp

Apparently she does eventually turn Dallas into a decent human being, too.

Another Luck/Eve ficlet. Unexpectedly, this one is rated R. For sex, not for violence. Don't look at me like that, guys, I don't even know.

Eve tilts the glass between her hands, and watches the pale liquid swirl within. )

Here's a random little bit of Luck/Eve quickfic written for a fic battle prompt, just because. Probably indirectly [livejournal.com profile] atrocity's fault.

I wonder if you're having second thoughts. )

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] infinitepryde:

Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Fay chose silver glitter instead of gold") or big (e.g. "and then Rose was arrested instead of Jack") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.

Since I usually write shortfic which doesn't especially lend itself to this sort of thing, I will expand "story" to include RP and canon. Have at.

Speaking of that Baccano! fanfic, here's another not quite 200 words from what is probably near the end of the fic but which I am posting now because it pleases me and, hey, the series itself doesn't bother with chronological order either.

In which Eve accepts Luck's proposal before he actually makes it, but not before he gives her time to think it over. )

Excerpt from the fourth novel, Drugs & Dominoes. )

Seriously, most adorable Mafia power trio ever. XD

Have finished watching Baccano! thanks to [livejournal.com profile] atrocity. It is an absurdly fun series and I recommend it to everyone. Seriously, omg ♥.

I am now occupying myself with figuring out how to modify that fanfic I am working on to at least partly follow series canon instead of just the novels. And also trying to talk myself out of titling it "Fortune Favors the Brave," but the really lame implied pun amuses me more than it should.

Also, I would like to stop feeling gross and waking up with the inside of my throat all dried out and icky, please.

While I've got it on the brain, here's the first 500-some words of an as-yet-untitled Baccano! fanfic I'm working on. Because I have been inspired by Drugs & Dominos, and unexpectedly charmed by Luck and Eve, the smart and ruthless Mafioso with the unexpectedly soft heart and the innocent young ingenue with the spine of steel. I ship it.

Unfortunately it's coming out kind of stilted and awkward, which I think is the result of having my understanding of both characters' voices filtered through the translation from the Japanese. Watching the anime helps a bit, but since I only have the first four episodes, there's not a lot to work with. I'll have to work on refining the wordings a little.

I suppose I could wait until I've finished a draft before I actually start posting it, but awkwardness aside I'm kind of liking how it's coming out so far, so, ffff.

It took Eve nearly a week to work up the nerve to see him again. )

yay!

Happy discoveries that I have made today: fan translations of (some of) the Baccano! light novels online here.

They're mostly not complete, but all of the first novel is up, and between that site and [livejournal.com profile] dawnelkin's LJ here, the fourth novel, Drugs and Dominos, is almost complete (and features a moment of pure unadulterated awesome from Luck, who has become my favorite character in the whole crazy business, and I swear it's not just because he's another random Takehito Koyasu character).

Baccano!, for anyone who's forgotten, is a series about Prohibition-era gangsters, thieves and killers and some elaborate shell games involving any or all of money, drugs, explosives, a train called the "Flying Pussyfoot," and the elixir of immortality. "Crazy awesome" about sums it up. The translations from the Japanese combined with the generally twisty and not-always-linear plots make the novels a bit hard to follow, but worth it anyhow.
