I'll qualify Penguin Revolution's nebulous romantic polygon involving Yukari, Ryo, Ayaori, and Narazaki as "working out great" in that the participating characters seem pretty content with things as they stand even if nothing is specifically confirmed by the ten-years-later epilogue of the series. It's one of those situations in which it'd be kind of a shame to see any one specific couple confirmed to the exclusion of the other participants, and at least in the case of Ayaori, his feelings for Yukari and for Ryo are equally important, and their respective relationships with him are also significant. (Narazaki is kind of the odd one out here in that he's only connected to the whole thing through Yukari, but he makes up for it by being really likeable and completely not caring whether Yukari's a girl or a boy.)
Day 24 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out badly?
On the other hand, the equally nebulous triangle of Murrue, Mwu, and Natarle in Gundam SEED barely managed to exist in the first place. The text makes some very vague hints that Natarle has feelings for Mwu, but Natarle really has much more significant interaction with Murrue throughout the series and I choose to believe she really had feelings for both of them and just had no idea what to do with any of it. In any case, it all ended very poorly, especially for Natarle.
SEED gets some extra points for then having another almost-triangle involving Murrue, Neo, and Andy Waltfeld in Destiny, only to shuffle Andy out of the picture as soon as Murrue and Neo meet. Andy/Murrue would have been better than Neo/Murrue in almost every way, so this also counts, at least as far as I'm concerned, as working out pretty badly.
