1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video: Not counting TV series and cheapo copies, 56 DVDs, 89 VHS.
2) The last film I bought: Black Beauty, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Quest for Camelot for six dollars each at Wal-Mart.
3) The last film I watched:
a) In the theater? Um.... it's been a while. I think it was Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
b) On DVD? Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
c) On VHS? Last thing I watched on VHS was some taped CSI. Last
movie I watched on VHS might have been Independence Day.
And though it wasn't asked, the last movie I watched on TV was Man from Snowy River on cable just a little while ago.
4) Ten films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
In no particular order...
Man from Snowy River, one of the two best horse flicks of all time. The other one is its sequel,
Return to Snowy River, which is also on this list. Beautiful scenery, horses, period costume, Aussie accents... what more could anyone ask for?
The Princess Bride - one of those movies that gets better every time I watch it.
The Maltese Falcon and
Casablanca both classics, and movies I like to bring up when I want to sound like a film snob. They should make more movies with dialogue like these; it just snaps.
Nadia - the story of Nadia Comaneci, the Romanian gymnast who scored a perfect ten at the Olympics. Jill, my horseback riding trainer, showed me this movie as a lesson in dedication. I guess it didn't take as well as she'd hoped, but it did leave an impression on me.
The Neverending Story, a classic of my childhood. It's really a tossup between this one and
The Last Unicorn and
Labyrinth, but there's only room on this list for ten movies.
Singin' In The Rain -
the musical.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - because I heart pulp adventure.
Voices of a Distant Star - because it makes me cry.
And I'll follow
ahumblepen's example and list movies that I'm looking forward to seeing:
Batman Begins looks like it stands a good chance of redeeming the franchise after the pile of shame that was the last two Batman movies.
X-Men 3 I am less sanguine about, but I
am curious, especially now that Kelsey Grammer is officially signed on to play Beast.
I am also curious about the live-action
Last Unicorn, if it ever actually gets made.
And at some point I'll go see
Episode III in the name of closure. But I'm going to wait until the crowds thin out. I'll probably catch the
Fantastic Four movie too.
ETA: Oh, yeah, and
Mr. And Mrs. Smith looks like fun.
...are there any serious movies I'm planning to see?
No, apparently not.
