June 11, 2007: I turn 27.
June 12, 2007: work as usual.
June 13, 2007: the dead walk.
And, you know, the stupid thing is, I didn't know what was going on until I got halfway down I-20 on the way to work and traffic was all backed up and... dead people. zombies. shambling.
Under the circumstances I don't think Saks is gonna do much to me for not making it into work.
Got the hell off 20 while I could and went home - I know, I know, but stupid me, all I could think was that the cats were stuck in my apartment and I'd put the food up. Sorry, guys, turns out I'm That Girl.
And then I pulled into the parking lot and there were two zombies on the stairs up to my apartment so I, uh, ran my car into them. Biggest blunt weapon I could think of at the time.
Didn't work quite like I was hoping but the zombies got crushed and the stairs are pretty much blocked - they're not so much for climbing so far - and I got the armoire and my bookshelves in front of the front windows and barricaded in as much as I could. Sammy and Bogart are freaked but okay so far.
I guess I can hold out as long as the power does... so far from what I can tell they're not too interested in getting up here. Yet.
I've got food - saving that MRE I'd stashed in the closet forif when if the power quits - bottling up water in any container I can spare - and a stick. That's about it. I swear to God if I live through this I'm going to go out and buy a baseball bat or something. Shotgun. Baseball bat and shotgun. I've got a little time to get creative, at least, maybe I can come up with something...
At least so far I've still got net access. Ha ha, small blessings. Hailing frequencies, guys: anyobdy still out there? Let me know you're okay. Or - alive.
please let me know i'm not the only one still out here

Date: 2007-06-13 09:25 pm (UTC)What I'm really worried about is the gas station a little ways away. It went boom. I don't know if the zombification factor is in the smoke. Hoping not, or I'd probably know by now.
If it is, well, at least my husband is at work -- they're far enough out to be relatively safe -- and he's got a batch of canned goods in the van. Plus, machine shop. They can make weaponry. And while we've both still got power and net, we're, uh, well, trading info via Pony Island. Nothing like pixel pony mail to make ZOMBIE MORNING a little more surreal.
Husband's got axes. I've got Dad's machete.
And power tools.
And, thank you October storm, the goddamn generator.
There's gotta be something useful I can do with a large quantity of pool chlorine, too.

Date: 2007-06-14 12:38 am (UTC)I *have* to go. I can't leave them. I'm the only one of us who's read the Zombie Survival Guide *and* the Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook.
Wish me luck.
