Magnetism Manipulation
All natives of the planet Braal can control magnetic material to some degree, but Dyrk's ability - when it's functioning - is significantly stronger than that of many other Braalians. Even as a child, he was exceptionally strong, and although he's put his natural ability through a lot and even lost it entirely for several years, currently he's at the peak of his strength.
Dyrk can generate and manipulate magnetic fields. The most immediately obvious use of this power is its ability to move and shape materials: by controlling magnetic fields, Dyrk can manipulate not only ferromagnetic materials like iron, nickel, and cobalt, but also paramagnetic materials such as platinum, barium, and uranium. Being able to manipulate magnetic fields also allows Dyrk to control electrical energy thanks to the close connection between electricity and magnetism.
The two main limitations of Dyrk's ability are temperature and distance. Any ferromagnetic material, when heated to a sufficiently high temperature, eventually reaches its Curie point and becomes paramagnetic, making it more difficult to manipulate; although he can manipulate molten metal if necessary, he can only do so in considerably lesser quantity and with greater strain.
Distance also limits his powers: the nature of his sense for magnetic fields means that he doesn't require line-of-sight and can apply his powers even through a solid barrier, the functional limit of his range is about fifty feet from himself. There are, however, some ways by which he can extend that range; if he is surrounded by large quantities of ferromagnetic metal, such as in a spaceship or on a space station, he can further extend his power through that framework, and there also exists technology which can temporarily boost Braalian powers.
Advanced Magnetic Sense
Although Dyrk was without his natural Braalian ability to control magnetism for some time, he retained his ability to sense magnetic fields - and during that period, he came to rely on that sense more and more. By the time the full range of his powers were restored, his magnetic sense had grown significantly in strength and sensitivity, to the point that his mag-sense is markedly stronger than that of any other living Braalian. It is tied in with and augments his sense of balance, equilibrium, and spatial orientation, and his kinesthetic sense of the position and movement of his own body; he trusts his magnetic sense above all other senses.
Dyrk has an automatic, 360-degree proprioceptive awareness of the magnetic fields around him. While he is within a planetary magnetic field, he has an innate sense of magnetic north, giving him an unerring sense of direction and making him generally resistant to spatial disorientation. He is automatically aware of any ferromagnetic or paramagnetic materials within his range, able to accurately distinguish size, shape, and location, as well as more generally being able to distinguish between different types of materials; his awareness of magnetic fields also allows him to sense the movement of electrical energy. This awareness is sensitive enough to register even the trace iron present in human hemoglobin, and requires little to no concentration on Dyrk's part.
By focusing closely on his magnetic sense, Dyrk can also gain a limited awareness of energies on the electromagnetic spectrum, which ranges from gamma radiation and x-rays through the visible spectrum to radio waves. Unlike his sense of magnetic materials and electrical energies, this is not an unconscious awareness; it requires concentration.
Furthermore, by controlling his own Braalian mag-field, Dyrk can take advantage of the diamagnetism of many substances to gain a much more detailed proprioceptive awareness of his surroundings within the range of his power. Although neither he nor any other natural-born Braalian has strong enough control over magnetism to manipulate diamagnetic materials - which include water, most organic compounds, metals such as mercury, gold, and bismuth, and some plastics - by applying his own magnetic field to those materials he can generate enough of a reaction to register to his mag-sense. This, unlike his automatic sense of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic materials, requires an active effort, and can interfere with magnetic storage devices and radio waves within the area of effect; it's perceptible by any means which can sense and monitor magnetic fields, not unlike the magnetic version of a sonar ping.
Shielding, Grounding, and Faraday Cages
To protect himself and others, Dyrk can focus his power over magnetism to create a powerful magnetic repulsion, which functions as a shield to repel basically anything with sufficient ferromagnetic or paramagnetic content. This shield is sufficient to repel tons of mass and can stop bullets; he can generate the repulsion as a single-direction wall of force, or as a spherical shield surrounding himself and others near him. If necessary, he can also create a spherical magnetic shield around someone else without being inside it himself, but this is more difficult.
Dyrk's control over magnetic fields also enables him to ground himself, channeling electrical energy and bleeding it off into the earth - even if he's not actually in contact with the earth at the time. It's something like a lightning rod, preventing him from being harmed by electricity so long as he exerts the effort to maintain the grounding. The farther away he is from whatever he's grounding into, of course, the more difficult it is to pull off, but even in the absence of a suitable ground, he can still channel electrical energy away from himself - he just can't control the direction in which it will release, which can present all kinds of potential dangers depending on what's going on around him at the time.
To a limited extent, Dyrk can concievably generate a magnetic shield powerful enough to block various forms of electromagnetic radiation, including being able to bend visible light, but doing this with nothing but the raw power of his mag-field is enormously draining and can only be maintained for a matter of a few minutes at best - frequently more like seconds. It's far more effective for him to use a solid framework for his shield in order to create a Faraday cage, with which he can either contain or block out a broad range of forms of electromagnetic radiation, including the magnetic powers of other Braalians. The fewer and smaller gaps in the framework, the less of a strain maintaining the Faraday cage is on Dyrk's powers: a metal screen or mesh is ideal, but he can make do in less optimal conditions.
The more conventional form of his magnetic shield can be sustained for a fairly long time, but any of these forms of magnetic shielding requires too much concentration to allow him to do much of anything else with his powers while he's maintaining it.
Magnetic Levitation
Dyrk's power over magnetism, and his personal Braalian mag-field, are strong enough that as long as he is either within a planetary magnetic field or near a suitably large mass of metal - like, say, a space station or a cruiser - he can easily levitate himself and others with him. Not many Braalians are capable of this form of flight, but Dyrk's power can lift tons of metal; lifting himself is no strain.
Limited EMP
One of the other possible uses of Dyrk's control over magnetic fields is the ability to create a short-range electromagnetic pulse that will scramble any magnetic storage devices, disable electronics, and generally disrupt the electricity within a range of about the size of a fairly large building complex. He can push the range further if he has to - with the addition of electrical power from, say, Live Wire or Spark, he can conceivably cover the area of a large city - but he's not in any great hurry to, say, burn out his powers again, or give himself brain damage.
He can also create much smaller EMPs, down to pinpointing one particular electronic device. There are often easier ways of disabling a single given device, but if he needs to be subtle about it, the option is there.
