Finally finished watching Blood+. It was not nearly as bad as I feared. I will admit, however, that a large part of the entertainment value of the series had by this point become watching people on the TVWoP forum explain what was going on to those who were having trouble following:
"I would say:
- he shows up for a regular visit
- finds that she has dragged herself outside, indicating that she is finally waking up
- still lacking a plan after years of thinking, he gets out the pistol
- but, she doesn't seem aggressive at all
- so he goes with plan B: adopt another kid."
"Snacks for two growing boys: $15.
Pre-paid hotel room for the night: $225.
Being orphaned twice, and then abandoned by the only other adults you know in the area: Priceless."
"Hagi and the World's Strongest Cello Case were as awesome as ever. When he was standing watching Saya fight, he had this attitude of, 'I'll be over here, dear, so just let me know when you're ready to collapse.' His conversation with David was another highlight. 'No, I'm not a therapist. Just an observation that the drinking makes you miserable and throw up a lot.'"
"I liked Solomon's speech: 'I'll always love Diva, but she's a blood-thirsty little git, so I can't stand to be around her.' Or something like that."
"Amshel: "Prof. Collins, are you or are you not my bitch?"
Collins: "... I am."
Amshel: "Good. Remember that."
I don't think this is quite what modern executives are taught as effective leadership & motivational style."
"What Julia said was (paraphrased) 'If you were human we'd call this level of development 8 weeks, but since you're a blood-drinking monster-thing we don't really have a good frame of reference here.'"
Other things that are amusing me lately: Saiunkoku Monogatari, which I am too out of it to properly explain at the moment, but it's kind of like Ouran High School Host Club in feudal fantasy China with politics and open bisexuality. Srsly.
Also the Legion Abstract, which I recommend to the LSH fans on my flist. Reviews and synopses of all current ongoing Legion storylines, including threeboot, the stuff going on in Action Comics, the cartoon, and the comic of the cartoon, but more interesting than these are the writeups on signature moments of each Legionnaire and other random Legion-related stuff. I live in hope that he will eventually get around to a writeup on Magno, because thus far it's taken characters on the level of Atmos, Visi-Lad, and Calamity King to reduce him to "yeah, he was here, he didn't really do anything, we don't care, moving on," and any kind of appreciation for Magno as a character makes me happy.
Plus, he's funny:
"So, what we learn from this scene is that, not only does Invisible Kid have the sheer cold steel courage to entrust Infectious Lass with his genitalia on a regular basis, he can apparently do so (I extrapolate this from Drura's languorous demeanour here) without, uh, losing the moment.
Jacques, you're a better man than I am."
"I can almost imagine the Time Trapper saying to himself, 'Hmm, cyclical time, interesting. So what is the nature of time, then, after all? And why am I wearing these purple robes if I don’t know?'"
"No matter what comes along, Karate Kid knows he can handle it. Knows it. He is unintimidatable. Here’s a guy who introduces himself to Darkseid by trying to kick him in the head. Here’s a guy who, when he and Ultra Boy are confronted by literally thousands of Lemnos’s soldiers, thinks the only sensible course is to attack."
"Usually superheroes are Type A personalities who can’t stand not to win every confrontation they have, but Gear doesn’t waste his time with false pride. Specifically, I like the tack he takes: 'You want me to fight you? Sorry, pal, not my department. I'm a noncombatant. The union would be all over me.'"
"Doesn’t sound noble, until you think about it: for Mon, the Time Trapper isn’t a person so much as he’s a force of entropy; if you kill him, is it murder or experimental physics?"
Not to mention that he actually went to the trouble of explaining the entirety of Mon-El's continuity, which, dear God. Anyway, Legion fans, check it out. Makes for some interesting reading.
