What I'm Watching: Full Metal Panic!

joiedecombatThis is a reccomendation post for any of the anime fans on my friendslist who might be interested. Just for fun, this one is illustrated with screencaps. Because I am that bored.
This is Sergeant Sagara Sousuke:
Sousuke is a member of an elite mercenary company called Mithril. They fight terrorists, drug rings, and illegal arms dealers. In other words, they're the good guys.
These are Sousuke's closest colleagues, Sergeant Major Melissa Mao and Sergeant Kurz Weber:
They are professionals with a healthy working relationship.
Mao, Kurz, and Sousuke have just been assigned a secret mission to protect Japanese high school student Chidori Kaname:
Kaname is at risk of abduction by very bad people who want to do very bad experiments on her to extract information about secret advanced technology from her brain:
With this secret technology, they can make things like giant robots that can do crazy things like turn invisible:
Unfortunately, the experiments have nasty side effects like driving their subjects insane. But Kaname has Sousuke looking out for her.
It's just that Sousuke's having a bit of trouble adapting to the high school environment.
And since Kaname has no idea what the heck Sousuke is really up to, she's not making things easy for him either.
But Sousuke will do whatever he has to in order to keep Kaname safe...
...even if she kills him for it.
So, yes. Full Metal Panic! is a giant robot anime with less than usual emphasis on the giant robots and a somewhat lower level of technology. With a heaping helping of fish-out-of-water high school romantic comedy as Sousuke tries, not very successfully, to maintain his cover as a normal Japanese high school student, to Kaname's endless frustration. And because I know my flist likes awesome ladies, Kaname and Mao are both pretty badass.

Fumoffu (now with 100% more high school antics: Sousuke says it with C4) and The Second Raid in one big lump here (http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3965862/Full_Metal_Panic__all_Season_English_Subtitle_ON_DVDrip.torrent) seems to work pretty well.

Date: 2008-08-11 05:46 am (UTC)I can't remember if you've ever seen Nodame Cantabile or not. If you haven't, you TOTALLY need to check it out. It's all music/symphony nerdery with the best love story ever. :( Chiaki is a character who is right up your alley.
The live action series is adorable too! But if you haven't seen, I'd be more than willing to pimp some eps your way. I've got them on one of my computers. SOMEWHERE.
