annwyd, although there's plenty of Western media that I'm a fan of, I only really seem to get involved in fandom for anime and video games. I don't know why this is exactly, but I rarely even read fanfiction for the novels and live-action TV series that I'm a fan of.
Okay, there's comics, but my interest in those tends to be limited to specific characters and pairings for the most part.
2) Guilty secret: I have this absurd love for romance plots involving an essentially ordinary, usually tsundere character and a character who is good-looking, talented, charismatic, probably wealthy, popular with everyone, and apparently on a single-minded mission to aggravate the first character to death by being inscrutable and provoking and a borderline if not actual stalker, at least until the story gets around to revealing that actually he (because it's always a guy) is really just a huge emotionally needy social retard and by that point the first character is in love with him. (Examples: Only the Ring Finger Knows, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama.) It is a guilty semi-secret of mine because, for one thing, the stories usually have all the literary nutritional value of a Twinkie, and for another I can never stop a part of my head from acknowledging that these pairings are really kind of wrong and unhealthy in ways not actually intended by the text, but I still eat it up.
3) Guilty secret: Generally speaking, the character ships I get into are the ones that are explicit (or at least very subtext-heavy) in canon. I do not generally read/watch/play with shipper goggles on, and subtext has to be pretty close to the text before it really pings me.
...except for a few favorite characters in certain fandoms who I crackship all over the place in ways I am embarrassed to admit to because it's not only almost always slash, it's almost always horrible wrong inexplicable slash like Yoji/Aya or Claire/Luck or Irvine/Squall (okay, that last one isn't all that wrong, but still).
4) Unpopular opinion: I still think the whole "Rinoa will become Ultimecia in the future" theory is retarded, and if you tell me that you think it is intended as part of the game's canon, I will judge you.
(With my apologies to anyone who enjoys it as an AU idea. I don't judge people for that, though I still don't care for it.)
5) Unpopular opinion: Magno was an awesome character and DC can bite me, and so can everyone who calls him a poor man's Cosmic Boy. >:|

Date: 2010-05-17 01:47 pm (UTC)And for some reason that's why I crackship it.
Come to think of it, it's probably also why it's usually slash, because putting female characters into those situations makes me uncomfortable.
And, uh, sorry for the tl;dr there. Thanks for commenting. :)

Date: 2010-05-17 02:08 pm (UTC)when it involves incredibly messed-up people who aren't really capable of having normal relationships in the first place.
That is exactly why I like WK. (Oh, alright, the initial reason was that it has cool psychic assassins, but right after that.) Even though the animation is mostly horrible and the whole thing is so full of plotholes it makes a pasta sieve look positively airtight, the people are so messed up it's borderline fascinating. Never mind the plot that made me go 'What?' so many times I stopped counting after a dozen.
Now that you mentioned, I can't remember a single normal relationship in the whole series. Maybe Kyo and his brother in Glühen? (Except, well, for the whole 'his brother committed suicide and he became a vengeful assassin because of that' thing.)
... Er, I see your tl;dr and raise a WK fan? Or something? (Gods, I used to be so into Weiss Kreuz back in 2004-ish, wrote fanfiction and everything. :P)

Date: 2010-05-17 10:02 pm (UTC)And I love 'em broken, so there we are.
And... no, I think the only relationship anywhere in WK that you can possibly call normal is Yoji and his replacement-goldfish-Asuka from the end of Glühen... and then only if you're willing to overlook the brainwipe (admittedly probably the best possible resolution for him under the circumstances, but still, ow).
