shipping meme, days 13, 14, & 15:

Shockingly, I've gotten behind on the meme again. Oh well.
Day 13 - What is your favorite television pairing?
This question and tomorrow's question are unexpectedly hard to answer, I think mostly just because I'm trying not to repeat myself and I'm hitting most of my actual favorites on the other questions. And also it's hard for me to single out one particular absolute favorite anything. So I'm not going to spend a lot of time here, but as far as some of my favorite TV pairings...
Live-action: Tony and Ziva from NCIS, as already mentioned; Marcus and Ivanova from Babylon 5, who may or may not be discussed further in another entry but the short version is that they're both badass and snarky and I like their dynamic and Marcus's accent. So there you are.
Also an honorable mention to Lee and Amanda from Scarecrow and Mrs. King, one of my earliest ships, about whom I have even less to say because I haven't seen the show in forever but I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. I expect it hasn't aged well, but Bruce Boxleitner is still good-looking.
Animated: Mwu and Murrue from Gundam SEED, already discussed. And probably a bunch of others that mostly aren't coming to mind right now but which I may get to later in the meme.
Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?
I don't really ship in books as much as I do in other media, so these are even more arbitrary than usual:
Elspeth and Darkwind, Mercedes Lackey's Mage Winds trilogy. Don't look at me like that, I was like fifteen. One of my first battle couples.
Mirasol and the Master, Robin McKinley's Chalice. This one admittedly mostly makes the list because I read the book fairly recently, but Mirasol is a standard McKinley heroine and I always like those, and also the Master's efforts to get back in touch with his humanity. I think they are probably one of McKinley's better-developed couples.
Wataru and Kazuki, Only the Ring Finger Knows. I've talked before about my unreasonable love for pairings which are founded on one person apparently trying to aggravate the other to death (see also Usui and Misaki from day six). This is the one that kind of codified that for me: the whole plot basically hinges on the fact that Kazuki is polite and kind to everyone but Wataru, and wondering why drives Wataru to distraction until he figures it out. A lot of the pleasure of Only the Ring Finger Knows (and in this kind of pairing in general) is reading back through it knowing what's actually going on in Kazuki's head to make him behave the way he does.
Day 15 - What is your favorite real life pairing?
I really don't do this, so I'm clear for today, and that catches me up. At least for the moment.

Date: 2010-10-12 08:22 pm (UTC)And bees! In fact, I have this theory that McKinley does the adult, mystical version of the Little House on the Prairie-style Domestic Arts Porn: I live in a city and I eat out of cans, but I read these things and am struck with the bizarre desire to grow roses, or bake, or churn my own butter. It's kind of wacky that way.
