So it turns out what "Truth lies at the bottom of a well" really means is "I did not see that coming."
My mind = kinda blown.
Did not, in fact, see any of the Lunatic stuff coming. At all. And I'm a horrible person for it but Yuri is suddenly several orders of magnitude more interesting to me thanks to the tragic backstory and the level of self-flagellation we now know he subjects himself to. I'd been fairly sure he was going to be the "last boss," as it were, but I think I'm going to have to just stop predicting things at this point. It's pretty safe to say I have no idea what's going to happen.
But oh, Kotetsu, getting kicked while he's down by having his hero and role model knocked off his pedestal. Seeing him still lying there in that dumpster the next morning was wrenching. :( I can only hope that Barnaby figures out something's wrong pretty soon, before things get any worse.
And now, after having wavered away from it in episodes 12 and 13, I find myself leaning back towards the "Mr. Maverick has a sinister hidden agenda" line of thought that's been popular in the fandom. Barnaby's reminiscence was ominous somehow, especially finding out that Maverick had him conveniently away from the house all day the day his parents were murdered. Maybe it didn't have anything to do with their robotics research after all - maybe it was about Maverick getting his hands on an impressionable young NEXT to raise up into the perfect Hero?
Then again, see above re: I'm not allowed to predict things any more because I clearly have no idea where they're going to go with this next.
In conclusion: my reaction to this can only be described as a punched muppet face.
Next week: we finally get to see more of Kotetsu's family, and presumably some backstory on his wife! I am looking forward to it.

Date: 2011-07-18 02:33 pm (UTC)Or he can become Sternbild's first non-powered superhero, it's not like he doesn't spend 91.6% of his time depowered to begin with. He's already got the grapnel watch, a couple more gadgets from Doc Saito and he's good to go. YOU CAN DO IT, TIGER
But Elle Elle did you see we might be getting a Yuri on CNC?
