Tiger & Bunny 19
Aug. 7th, 2011 08:30 am"There's No Way Out" - very aptly titled. It was sort of like watching a slow, very gradual, completely unavoidable train wreck.
The first half of the episode was downright uncomfortable to watch, what with Barnaby flipping out and Kotetsu still trying to play it all off and be casual, and the slowly escalating spiral of both of them mutually just Not Handling The Situation At All Well. About the only right decision anyone made this episode was Kotetsu being conscientious about not driving drunk. (Which, aww.)
Aside from that: everything falling apart all at once. And then the reveal about Maverick, which people have been calling since about episode six. I'd wavered considerably on the subject myself, but I don't really think it was intended to come as a shock. Rather, they seemed to have written the latter half of the episode intentionally to draw out the tension as much as humanly possible, and damn it, it worked; I was practically flailing at the screen around the time he dropped that incredibly ominous "does anyone else know about this?" line, and then they just kept going and aaargh.
Interestingly, almost nobody seems to have called Maverick being a NEXT. I personally was suspicious of the relaxation chamber thing, but one of the things that made me decide against Maverick being the bad guy six episodes ago was that I couldn't imagine Doc Saito being complicit in something like that. So basically I've been trolled by Sunrise again.
Now, of course, both Kotetsu and Barnaby's old maid have great big targets painted on them, and who even knows how much of Barnaby's memory of the past couple days has been rewritten, and I'll just be over here on the edge of my seat until next Saturday.
Six more episodes. I'll just... leave this here as a tension-breaker:

(Oh, Kotetsu, this is why Kaede will never think you're cool.)

Date: 2011-08-07 03:16 pm (UTC)Though, I thought that was cool that Kotetsu was riding that thing. It was cute.
The revelations freaked me out, especially with the snap-back/memory wipe. The memory wipe kinda annoyed me, since it felt forced to draw out the 'why can't I remember' angst.
I'm still leery about the Barnabot theory, but this kinda killed it. And Jake Martinez is still dead! :D

Date: 2011-08-07 03:43 pm (UTC)I have a feeling the pin that Kotetsu forced on Bunny is going to be useful for thread-pulling purposes. The thing that I can't get out of mind is that, damn it, they're probably going to have to have the argument about Kotetsu quitting all over again, because I'm calling it now: next episode Kotetsu's going to try to apologize for that fight and Barnaby's going to have no clue what he's talking about.
