"Full of Courtesy, Full of Craft," or: "Oh crap oh crap oh crap."
I do love how this show manages to throw some comedy into even an episode like this one; Kotetsu inadvertently trolling Maverick by repeatedly almost drinking the drugged coffee was golden.
And, unfortunately, accidental. I was really hoping that at some point in all of the goings-on this episode that we'd find out that Kotetsu was pulling another fakeout like he did in episode 13 and that he was actually being cannier than it seemed like he was, but... no. This time, he really was just being oblivious. And I can't really blame him because he's got no real reason to be suspicious of Maverick, but argh.
This led to the expected conclusion: something like half the fandom called that Maverick would murder poor Samantha and try to pin it on Kotetsu. What we didn't anticipate was that he was going to get so theatrical about it. Now Kotetsu's insistence on keeping his secret identity is coming back to bite him - but I think getting ambitious and theatrical is going to end up being where Maverick blew it. He had Samantha under wraps; he could have convinced Barnaby to take a bit of a vacation, waited for another opportunity to edit Kotetsu's memory, and gone his merry way without having to kill anyone, but he's clearly been in TV too long. There's no way this can hold up. Rock Bison has known Kotetsu since high school. Blue Rose's treasured gift from Wild Tiger is a towel with "Kaburagi Liquor Store" printed on it. Ben Jackson and Anju and Muramasa Kaburagi all know Wild Tiger's real identity, and while none of them may be in a position to do anything about it, guess who else knows?
Yuri. Who has got to be smelling a rat.
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm hoping for Big Damn Lunatic to the rescue next episode or so.
But man, poor Kotetsu. And poor Kaede! New crappiest way ever to find out that your father is a superhero.

Date: 2011-08-16 03:38 pm (UTC)And as a hopeless fan of daddy/daughter moments, this is driving me nuts. If Kaede magically reconciles with Kotetsu after this I'll just. Idk. Be annoyed. Because she's been through a lot, too, though she's not the focus of the story. Blar.
I wish this wasn't true, but I'm ready for this show to end already. 8[
